From Courtroom to Conference: Acclaimed Climate Justice Film Screens at ECCA2025

A ground-breaking climate trial will come to the big screen at ECCA2025 – introduced in-person by its director.

The courtroom comes to the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference with  Duty of Care. This documentary tells the exclusive inside story of Roger Cox, the Dutch lawyer who initiated the groundbreaking climate trials against the Dutch government and the oil and gas giant Shell. These two rulings were initally hailed as landmark successes, however in November the Hague Court of Appeal set aside the preceding judgment which held Shell responsible for its contribution to climate change.

In the meantime climate litigation has gained momentum: at least 230 new climate cases were filed in 2023, many of them aimed at holding governments and businesses accountable for climate action.

Much has happened since the film's release in 2022, so we are delighted that director Nic Balthazar will be joining ECCA2025 to reflect on the film and it's. Join us in the Arengo Room on June 17th at 12:30 for the screening of the film followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Dive behind the scenes as the case evolves and Roger Cox tries to use the legal system to enforce climate policy.
