European Space Agency Rejoins as Major Partner for ECCA2025

The European Space Agency (ESA) is once again stepping into the spotlight as a Major Partner of ECCA2025, reaffirming the vital connection between space-based Earth observation and climate adaptation on the ground. This year’s ECCA, offers a timely stage for ESA to showcase its Earth observation capabilities and their impact on real-world adaptation.

Earth Observation at the Heart of Adaptation

ESA’s renewed involvement focuses on its Earth Action Pillar, part of the FutureEO programme to be presented at the upcoming ESA Ministerial Council later this year. This ambitious initiative emphasises the agency’s commitment to adaptation, providing tools that help societies anticipate, plan for, and respond to climate impacts.

Building on Momentum from Dublin

At the last edition (ECCA2023) in Dublin, ESA was also a major partner, sharing insights into how satellite data supports early warning systems, risk modelling, and sustainable land management. That collaboration continues in 2025, led by Susanne Mecklenburg and her team at ESA’s Climate Office.

This partnership highlights the growing recognition that space-based climate data is no longer a luxury, rather an essential tool in addressing the climate crisis. With intensifying climate extremes across Europe and globally, satellite data provides the granular, consistent, and scalable insights needed to make informed decisions.

- Don’t miss ESA’s contribution to the opening plenary on June 16 at 14:30.

- ESA will also be represented within the panel of the session ‘Earth Observation for Urban Climate Adaptation Strategies’ on June 18 at 12:00.

- ESA will have its own booth at the conference — be sure to stop by!
