ECCA2025 to Highlight Global Connection with Adaptation Futures2025

As the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA2025) prepares to take place, we are pleased to announce that our final plenary will include a spotlight on our sister conference Adaptation Futures 2025 (AF2025; https://adaptationfutures2025.com/), a major global event on climate adaptation happening later this year. The plenary intervention would be by Bronwyn Hayward, Director of The Sustainable Citizenship and Civic Imagination Research group, University of Canterbury and AF2025 Convenor. This connection highlights the importance of continued dialogue between international efforts in tackling the climate crisis.

A flagship by the World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP), Adaptation Futures has become a key event in the global adaptation community since its first edition in 2010 in Australia. Since then, the conference has taken place in the United States, Brazil, the Netherlands, South Africa, India, and Canada. In 2025, it will be held in Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand, from 13 to 16 October, hosted by WASP and the University of Canterbury with support from local partners.

By featuring Adaptation Futures in our final plenary, ECCA2025 aims to bridge conversations across continents, encourage collaboration, and maintain the momentum of recent research, solutions, and innovation in climate adaptation. These kinds of partnerships between major conferences are essential to keeping the adaptation community strong, connected, and active. They help ensure that the latest insights and innovations continue to inform action and policy, in Europe and beyond.
